These shawls are made from hand-spun, hand-woven and naturally dyed cotton in Hongsa District, Xayaboury Province. The colours listed are for both the warp and weft thread; white-white is a pure white textile, whereas black-white has black warp threads with white woven through it, creating a subtle pattern.
Producing cotton thread is a labour-intensive process, involving a variety of tools to clean, spin, and treat the yarn, before being set up on a loom and woven. These wonderfully soft shawls are elegant and warm.
